Terms of Use
Last updated
Read the pages, quote a sentence or two, follow a link and buy a book somewhere else. That is the whole arrangement — the rest of this page is the careful version.
About these terms
These terms govern your use of thomasludlow.com ("this site"). By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site.
The site is run by the author who creates under the name Thomas Ludlow. Thomas Ludlow is a pen name. You can reach the author athello@thomasludlow.com.
What this site is
This is a brochure site for two books: Nothing Stops at Crouch End Now andMind the Dark: Twelve London Thrillers. Nothing is sold here. There is no shop, no checkout, no account and no form. Every "buy" affordance sends you outwards to a retailer, and any purchase you make is a contract between you and that retailer, on their terms, with their delivery, cancellation and refund policies. I am not a party to it.
Ownership of the content
All text on this site, including sample chapters, blurbs and descriptive material, is the author's copyright. The cover artwork, the scene images and the author portrait are used under the author's rights and are likewise protected; some of the imagery on this site is generated or assisted by AI tools and is presented as illustration rather than as photography of real people, places or events. The book titles and the name Thomas Ludlow are used as marks of the author's work.
Nothing on this page grants you a licence to any of it beyond the permitted use set out below.
What you may do
- Read the site, on any device, as often as you like.
- Print or save a page for your own personal, non-commercial use.
- Link to any page on this site, from anywhere, without asking.
- Quote a short extract in a review, article, blog post, bookshop listing or social media post, provided you credit Thomas Ludlow and name the book, and provided the extract is no longer than fair dealing for criticism or review reasonably allows.
- Use the cover image, unaltered and uncropped, alongside a review or listing of the book it belongs to.
For anything beyond that — a longer extract, a reprint, an audio reading, a translation, or any commercial use — please just ask. The answer is often yes.
What you may not do
- Reproduce, republish or redistribute substantial parts of the site or the books, in any medium, without written permission.
- Crop, tint, rotate, overprint or otherwise alter the cover artwork, or present any image from this site as your own.
- Scrape, harvest or systematically copy the site, including for the training of machine learning or generative AI models. No permission for text and data mining is granted for any commercial purpose.
- Use the site or the author's name in a way that is misleading, defamatory, or that implies an endorsement or association that does not exist.
- Attempt to interfere with the site, its hosting or its availability to others.
It is fiction
The books described on this site are works of fiction. The characters, incidents, organisations, dialogue and events in them are invented, or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, or to real events, is unintended and coincidental.
Real London places appear in the books because that is where the stories are set. They are used as settings for invented events. Nothing in the fiction is a statement of fact about any real place, business, institution, public body or person, and none of it should be read as one.
The Parkland Walk material
Some pages on this site describe the Parkland Walk, the disused railway cutting between Finsbury Park and Highgate, and the old Crouch End station that sits on it. That material is written in good faith and researched with care, but it is background for a novel, not a guide.
It is not route advice, safety advice, or an invitation to visit at night or to enter anywhere that is closed, fenced or private. Opening hours, access, lighting and the state of the path all change. If you go, check current information from the landowner or local authority, use your own judgement, and take responsibility for your own safety. No liability is accepted for anything you do on the strength of a novel.
Links to other sites
This site links outwards — principally to retailers, so that you can buy a book. Those sites are not under my control. Their content, their terms and their handling of your data are their own responsibility, and a link is not an endorsement. I am not liable for anything you find, do or buy on a site you reached by following a link from here. Check the destination's own terms and privacy notice.
Retail links can go out of date, and prices, formats and availability at those retailers are set by them, not by me.
Availability and accuracy
The site is provided as it is and as it is available. I try to keep it accurate and online, but I do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every threat, or free of anything harmful, and I do not promise that any particular page or feature will remain available. The site may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice.
Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything on it, including loss of profit, loss of business, loss of data, or any indirect or consequential loss. Because this site sells nothing and charges nothing, no contractual relationship of sale arises between us through it.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time — most likely when the site itself changes. The version on this page is the version that applies, and the date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or with your use of this site, are governed by the law ofEngland and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, save that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK in which you live.
These terms are written to be readable rather than forbidding. They are a description of the basis on which this website is offered, not legal advice, and they are not a substitute for advice on your own circumstances.
